It’s not very often that I get to photograph newborn twins, so of course I jumped at the opportunity to work with Ally and Hunter as soon as they brought their sweet girls home from the NICU.
I, myself, am a NICU/preemie mom, and aunt to two sets of identical twins (one set actually within of a set of triplets). It is no surprise that as a Portland Newborn Photographer, I have a giant soft spot for photographing these tiny babies and their parents!
There’s nothing more unnatural than a mother giving birth to her baby, then being separated immediately. It really doesn’t matter that the separation is medically necessary in a premature birth and many other situations, the logic just cannot erase that bit of trauma.
I’ve actually heard many, many NICU moms use the words “whisked away” to describe the way their baby was taken away after birth, including myself (you can read about Rhett’s birth story here). It’s a tough pill to swallow and nothing, not even the knowledge of knowing it will happen in advance, can really prepare you for that feeling.
All of that to say that 6+ years after my own NICU/preemie/colic baby experience, there’s still a special little place in my heart for fellow NICU moms. And what an incredible gift to me that I am now in a line of work where these families are right in front of me. I feel so honored that I get just a few moments of their time to listen to them, hear their stories, and give them the precious gift of photographing their amazing little fighter babies.
It was literally a dream come true to photograph this perfect family! Thank you, Ally and Hunter, for trusting me to photograph your beautiful babies!
Thanks for reading, my friends!
