Portland Maternity Photographer Session

Today I’m bringing you this Family Maternity Session by Portland Maternity and Family Photographer Emilie Phillipson Photography, set in the iconic and stunning Columbia River Gorge backdrop.

Location, location, loca—–nope.

Now before we begin, let’s get this straight: the location is never the most important part of your session. You and your family are. But I’d be lying if I didn’t get giddy every time someone mentions that they want to have their photo session among the mountains in the Columbia River Gorge. It’s literally gorgeous and stunning in every direction, and when the golden sunset hits the mountain top just right, it’s honestly just perfect.

One thing I loved about this Portland Maternity Session…

This session is sentimental to me. I am lucky enough to form close relationships with so many of my clients, and most of them truly become friends to me. It was just a few years ago that I first met this family at this same location to photograph their first pregnancy. Since then, we have done many photo shoots in many places, and become quite good friends. When it came time to pick the location for their second child’s maternity session, the choice to come back to the Gorge was easy! Definitely a full circle moment!

Outfit is important.

There are many reasons why I adore this family, but one of my favorites that pertains to photography, is that they always trust my advice for locations and styling. And I’d say they absolutely nailed it! The white flowy white gown with lace edging (available in my client closet from luxury brand Coven & Co!!) is absolutely gorgeous, along with the soft neutral linens that the guys are wearing–so soft and lovely! I always recommend wearing whites, tans, neutrals, and earthy tones for your session, especially with such a green setting like this one.

One highlight of the session was at the very end, with the most golden, soft light, this mama wanted to add “a little spice” and do a few creative shots with roses from her own garden and favorite pair of jeans. Annnnnnnd, I’m always up for that! I love maternity photography. I love showcasing the beauty and femininity of a growing belly. Pregnancy, although difficult, is a gift exclusively for women, and I think that’s amazing. Such a short, unique, and special season of life. I absolutely adore helping mom to feel beautiful in her own body during a time that can sometimes feel very foreign. If you want to do something like this, don’t be shy!
